Summer 365 Camper of the Week: Jess & Emmie Choice Bracelets

6.24.16 by

Everyone knows camp friends are the best friends! And our Campers of the Week Jess and Emmie, current campers and CFFs, are using their long standing friendship, arts and crafts and friendship bracelet making skills, and spirit to give back, help others, and raise awareness with their new business venture Choice Bracelets. A portion of all proceeds from sales are donated to various charities and causes. Their camp themed line called Camps for Causes specifically gives back to Project Morry; a charity that helps send underprivileged children to camp to experience the memories and joy camp brought to them. All campers are going to want to add a Choice Bracelet to their friendship bracelet stack this summer!

Where do you go to camp?

This summer will be our 7th summer at at Indian Head Camp!

How did you come up with the idea of Choice Bracelets? Tell us more about your Camps for Causes line!

Jess came up with the idea for Choice Bracelets last year, when she was meeting with a college advisor. Many of her peers were struggling with depression, and some were even suicidal. It was really hard for her to see such good people hurting so much, and she wanted a way to help inspire them as well as raise awareness. This led her to contacting me, who immediately loved the idea, and we created Choice.

From here, we extended our business into our product line called Camps for Causes. Through our customized bracelets that have the colors for each camp, this allowed us to spread our love and spirit to other campers in various camps. More important, we also donate money to an important cause, called Project Morry, which sends underprivileged children to camp.

How has camp influenced what you do/your career path?

Camp has empowered us in all that we do, because no matter where we end up in life, Jess and I know our camp friends will always have our back and be there for us. They encourage us to do the things we love and support us in all that we do. Spending so much time with them, every day and night has created a strong bond with them that’s unique to any other friendship.

What are your top three essentials that you packed in your trunk?

pictures of my friends and family from home to hang up on the wall, a fan for the super hot days, and a few good books

What are three words to describe your camp experience?

empowering, relaxing, and fun-filled.

Who was someone at camp that you looked up to?

In camp, Jess and I looked up to our counselor Sam Frankel, for teaching us how to have fun, relax and be silly sometimes, to be yourself, and made me feel loved. We still keep in contact with Sam today!

Why do you think it is important to go to camp?

Camp allows kids to grow up, make difficult decisions on their own, and be independent, while having fun and making life-long friends.

What is your favorite/most epic camp memory?

(Emmie) My favorite/most epic camp memory is so hard to decide. If I had to pick one, it would be when my friends and I went camping and we went to this beautiful little lake that had rocks surrounding it and a big cliff that we all took turns jumping off of. It was so fun and looking back on it, it seems to be almost surreal.

How has camp affected your adult life? Is there something you learned there that you still do today?

Camp has made us the people we are today. It has taught us compassion, how to be independent, take a stand for yourself, work through sometimes difficult decisions, and voice your needs.

Words of wisdom for current and future campers?

Cherish every moment you have in camp, because before you know it, seven weeks have flown by and you’ll be wishing you could go back. Camp is the greatest experience of your entire life.
